Symposium: Art Practice and Exhibition in Virtual Reality
@ The National Space Centre Leicester 4th November 2016
with special guest speaker Shezad Dawood
Artists, academics, curators and industry creatives at the cutting edge of VR technology presented and discussed their work, including special guests contemporary multi-media artist Shezad Dawood and professor of interdisciplinary arts Mike Phillips.
Hosted by INDEXprojects, KARST and i-DAT, the symposium explored current and future art practice in VR, including issues of social and political developments in digital space, theory and the practice of exhibition and distribution, accessibility and documentation of virtual worlds.
The symposium was part of a research and development project funded by the Arts Council of England. The project is a collaboration between two artist-led organisations: INDEXprojects (indexprojects.co.uk) and KARST (karst.org.uk) and the pioneering digital research lab i-DAT (i-dat.org). This collaborative project aims to develop a VR platform for artists and galleries to engage and exhibit in radical ways.
